Achilles Tendinosis

in Injuries

I’ve noticed a lot of visitors have found my blog when they are looking for information about achilles tendinosis. I can understand why. Achilles tendinosis is one of those injuries that’s rattled with grey area. There is no cut and dry, try this and you are guaranteed to feel better. Like so many others struggling with this injury, I was constantly hitting Google up for answers. When I would find a little information, whether on a blog or in a forum, I just hung on every word.

Over time, I combined information from the internet and talking with my doctor to develop an opinion on what I should do. I certainly didn’t make the decision to have surgery hastily. I spent a solid 9 months going to physical therapy for my achilles tendinosis. I stopped running. I stopped pushing my achilles to do what I wanted and succumbed to do only what my achilles allowed. As I’m facing achilles surgery the day after tomorrow, I can honestly say that I am still not 100% sure that I’m doing the right thing.

There is something about this injury, achilles tendinosis, that allows you to do just enough to function. It makes you wonder if you’re just fine or maybe healing really is right around the corner…and then the next…and the next… So what that I have to wear tennis shoes all the time, I can walk without limping a lot of the time. And so what if it hurts to do the elliptical more than two days in a row, I can ride the bike instead. Sure, I have to be careful and slow, but I can do it. This really is a quality of life situation. I want to run again, and get on the elliptical, the bike, and I’m really dying to wear cute shoes again! So many things I took for granted when I could do what I wanted.

So, I’m going to document my achilles surgery and the recovery as much as I can, in hopes of providing information to others who are dealing with achilles tendinosis and considering surgery. I genuinely hope you read something here that gives you a little better understanding of what you want to do for your own injury. Good luck!
