I have been looking forward to running this weekend. I think that’s probably an understatement. I haven’t run since the Girlfriends Half Marathon on October 18th so I’m more than itching to get out there. The day after the half marathon, my podiatrist told me not to run for 4 weeks. I have been obedient and faithful to my cross training. It’s now been 4 weeks, or it will be this weekend. I have a running date scheduled for Saturday morning with the race director of the Skamania County Turkey Trot 5k to preview the course for Run Oregon. (Another blog I write for) Sadly, I must cancel.
My achilles tendinosis is getting better. The module and swelling is going down. I don’t have pain in my everyday activities anymore, but it’s still not healed. I was told last night that I still can’t run and they are now considering putting me in a boot. (Insert scream of frustration here). I’m one pissed off mother runner…who isn’t running…at all.
I’m trying to just go with the flow. This is temporary and if I allow my achilles time to truly heal, the injury won’t keep coming back to haunt me. I need to stay focused on that, otherwise I get discouraged. So I will continue to cross train, as well as the other things I wrote about doing while injured a while back.
Obviously I don’t have much to write about running right now, so I’ll work on getting some better topics other than me whining about not running. I’m learning a lot about nutrition right now, maybe you would find the information interesting too. More to come…

You are wise to heed the advice to not run. Think about it… a few more weeks off could mean that you aren’t off for months later on. It’s frustrating I know. Trust me, I’ve been there but in the end you will be happy that you took the time to properly heal. Can you do other things like strength training or other froms of cardio to keep your endurance up? Take care!
It’s okay to whine. I do it aaaallll the time.
Hope you heal quickly so you can get back out there!
Jen-
How did you get hurt? I would kinda like to know so that I can avoid doing whatever it was that you did! I very much miss running with you and want you better for the long haul!
Kris, I’m not really sure how I did it. I think when it started to go down hill, I didn’t stop running like I should have and it just kept getting worse and worse. It sucks to not be running right now, but I hope that the time off will be time well spent. Hopefully I’ll be better than ever pretty soon. I can’t wait to run with you again!!!
The fact that you’re continuing to go to the gym and work out is better than most people who get frustrated with an injury and stop working out all together. Keep at it and when you do get back into running (soon I’m sure) you’ll be glad you did, and you’ll have less chance of injury!
