To Run or Not to Run

After running 11 miles with some serious pain in my achilles, I am having to take it easy and see how I feel for the upcoming half marathon I’ve been training for. I had a physical therapy appointment on Friday, right before heading out of town for the weekend. I think I surprised my physical therapist when I was trying to fend off the tears while we discussed whether or not I should run the planned 13.1 mile event.

The verdict? I am not running all week. I’m not doing extensive amounts of walking or the elliptical either. I’m confined to the bike and my regular strength training workout. By Saturday, I’ll know if I can handle the half or if I’ll have to call it quits. I’m nervous. On one hand, I’m feeling bummed about the possibility of not running, after I’ve been planning on running this for about a year. On the other hand, I’m feeling anxious about running. It hurt so bad to run 11 miles, if I have to do it again for a terrible pace…why? Why put myself through it if it will just be painful.

Time will tell. I still have a few days of waiting it out to see how it feels. Please send good vibes my way!

Oh no, I’m so sorry. I know the frustration of not being able to run but the smart thing to do is to take time off so you don’t cause further damage and a potentially longer healing time. I hope all goes well. Take it easy and think positive thoughts.
