It’s early on a Saturday morning and I’m about to head out into the rain to run a timed 6.5 mile run. The Girlfriends Half Marathon is 6 weeks away so this timed run of half the distance will give me an idea of my pace for the upcoming event. It will also help determine if I need to make any adjustments to my training plan.
This training run isn’t my idea! In the running program I’m in, our coach sets the schedule. She’s the one who we curse under our breath during track workouts, and sometimes on long runs, and almost always during fartleks. (Just kidding!) To be honest, I’d be content just completing the 6.5 miles today, without paying much attention to timing it. That’s part of the benefit of having a coach though. She pushes me just a little further and faster than I think I can go.
Now it’s time to go get ready to run…in the rain…I kind of wish I was still in bed…
