Communities for Runners

I’m online a lot. That might be an understatement. I work for an online retailer so I’m online all day at work. I go to school online (on break right now) so I am online a lot of evenings and weekends. I also love social media so I whether on my Mac or my Blackberry, I’m pretty connected – Twitter, Facebook, and a few other specialty community sites. Yep, I’m there. So is it any surprise that I’ve found a couple of online communities of runners and bikers who share their progress with each other?

Check out dailymile. If you’re looking for some accountability, motivation, and inspiration all rolled up into one online experience, you’ll like it too. The site is full of features, many of which I haven’t ventured to try yet. Mainly because I’m so content with posting my runs or workouts and commenting on others, (as well as receiving comments from others), that I haven’t made the time to find out what else the site offers. It’s on my list of things to do though. Simply put, dailymile = encouraging relationships.

Another great community for runners is Just Finish. I admit, I don’t hang out at this site as much as I’d like to. However, the people are great, the support is top-notch, and I love the forum topics. You can join groups, jump into forum discussions, post blogs, and just plain old mingle. I especially like the weekly Just Finish newsletter. There is always a fun “Question of the Week.” Answer the question and you’ll be entered to win the prize that week.

I’ve found that both communities are welcoming to athletes of all levels. So come on out and join the conversation. I’ll “see” you there!
