Once again, I have fallen behind on my blog. I’ve been trying to navigate the waters to transfer You Mother Runner to self hosted and I’m learning a ton. It’s more complicated than I realized it would be so it’s taking more of my time. (Time that I don’t really have) I should have planned better. One result of this process is a growing number of blog posts that I’ve started, but need to finish and publish, but after last night’s run, I knew I had to write about this right away.
I went for a short 2 mile run on a local trail. It was a beautiful day yesterday so there were a lot of walkers out. About .50 mile from the end, I was approaching two older women with a dog. Both women were smiling at me as I came closer. Then as I was about to pass by them, one of the women shouted, “strong work,” to me and gave me a thumbs up. It was great encouragement to finish that last half mile.
It made me think about how encouraging women can be with each other. Sorry men, but the average guy doesn’t seem to have the same camaraderie. Women can encourage other women, even strangers, and it connects us somehow, as if we’re in some sisterhood. Maybe this woman saw that I needed a little something to push me to finish the run strong, or maybe she cheers on most runners she sees out on the trail. Whatever it was, I took away more than a split second of encouragement. Her kind words and smiling face gave me the warm fuzzies to work hard and encourage other women to “work strong” too.

Nice! Feels good to be encouraged by a stranger.
Aw, you really do read my blog!
Jen,
Come on you get lots of encouragement from guys in the Getfit Livefit prgram.
Oh, busted! You’re so right though, Jim. You guys of GFLF are awesome and very encouraging!! I was thinking about male strangers. Plus, I don’t necessarily count you guys as the “norm.” You’re all way better!
