Oh my, how times have changed. “Ladies Night” used to be a darn good reason to hit the clubs. These days, I look forward to Ladies Night at Fit Right Northwest. If you’re a runner in the Portland/Vancouver area, I’d be shocked if you didn’t know of Fit Right Northwest. They have two locations, one in NW Portland and one in Vancouver in the Fisher’s Landing area in Vancouver.
Ladies Night at their Vancouver location was Wednesday, April 15th. It was my first time attending and I’ll definitely go back. After a $5 donation that went to the Raphael House, everyone in attendance received 15% off purchases of footwear and apparel. They offered a small selection of beverages and snacks and had a few reps on hand to answer questions about Nike and physical therapy. April, a very talented massage therapist with Movement Therapy Clinic, treated women to short sports massages. With an all-female staff on hand and some great raffle prizes, Fit Right Northwest took great care to make the night a success. I must say though, the main attraction was the fellowship.
The store was full of women talking, laughing, shopping, drinking, eating. As I looked across the store throughout the night, I was struck with the realization that even though most women have a difficult time nurturing their friendships, female runners just do it better. Everyone attending Ladies Night seemed to be celebrating the camaraderie of female runners and it kind of made you feel a part of something. It didn’t matter if you were an elite or on the slow boat, you were part of the gang. So a big thank you to Fit Right for recognizing the female running community and giving us a night to live it up with each other. See you next year!
